An inspiration for this book has a saying in English, "The genius, wit and spirit of a nation are discovered in its proverbs. The welcome accorded to my Nepalese Book of Proverbs (1985) and Proverbs of Nepal and Other Countries (1991) also encouraged me to bring out this book.
Despite the very rapid growth of urban centres, especially in the plains, after the political changes, villages will conceivably continue to play a dominant role in Nepal for a long time to come. Folklore, the spice of life rural society, is very much in evidence here as in other countries, be it in everyday conversation or in speeches, newspapers and other media of communications
