Sacred Animals of Nepal and India

Most of the Gods and Goddesses in Hinduism and in Buddhism are also described in greater details so as to clearly indicate relationships in their hierarchy. Animals came to be associated with Gods and Goddesses in many different ways. Man worships the Gods and Goddesses and they in turn have diverse animals as their vahanas (vehicles) and associates. A more comprehensive description of these major Gods and Goddesses as conceptualized by Hindus and Buddhists is therefore essential to convey the significance which each animal assumes. Impact of animals has also been considered in varied cultural patterns as reflected in the people’s religious, social, and artistic affairs.
